In November 2007, the first edition of the SADC Artists AIDS Festival was launched in Harare, Zimbabwe.  It was during a three day workshop for artists that a call for the establishment of an organisation that would champion the cause for artists affected by HIV and AIDS was made.  During this meeting, artists representing five SADC countries signed a declaration of commitment to the cause and this culminated into the establishment of the SADC Artists AIDS Support Network.

Super Patriots and Morons – The Film- makes Durban International Film Festival Plus a North American Premiere of the play!

Super Patriots and Morons will be screened at the Durban International Film Festival at the end of this month.  Super Patriot and Morons is the only short film from Zimbabwe to be entered into the short film competition in Durban.  The film will be screened on the 25th and 27th July 2008 during the week-long film festival in the South African city.

After the banning of the play “Super Patriots and Morons” in Zimbabwe in 2003, the play has been warmly received in many southern African and European Countries.  In 2004 “Super Patriots and Morons” was the first Zimbabwean play to be staged at the prestigious Market Theatre in South Africa where it showed for two weeks.  In the same year it traveled to Botswana and later to Zambia.  In 2007 it did a two month tour to Europe, traveling to Sweden, Denmark and Edinburgh.

The brilliant, naturally talented Tafadzwa Muzondo makes his third-in-a-row appearance at Theatre in The Park in the coming week.

Following his back-to-back performances in the last two plays at Theatre in the Park “Sahwira” and “Teeth”,  Tafadzwa will now feature in the highly acclaimed “Loupe”  that recently premiered at HIFA 2008 now showing at Theatre in the Park from 10 to 25 July 2008.  Tafadzwa who played the character “Z”, in “Teeth”, an ex combatant tormented and delirious by the violence and torture he inflicted on others in his past will play four characters as a brother, father, prophet and a female sex-worker in “The Loupe”.
